Mill House Quilts Recommends Cotton Quilt Fabric

Mill House Quilts always recommends cotton fabric for quilting. Cotton is simple to work with. Unlike other fabrics, cotton is easy to press and also holds its form. As a durable fiber, 100% cotton fabric withstands constant use. It lasts for years.

Cotton fabrics have some give in them, so you can normally just stretch it if your seams are a little off. Another cool thing about cotton quilt fabric is that while you sow your pieces, it sticks together enough so pins are often times not required.

How to Choose Quality Cotton Quilt Fabric

When you choose your fabric, make sure it has a high thread count. Low thread count will result in fibers breaking more easily when stitched. If the bolt of fabric you find does not include the thread count information, simply hold a single fold of fabric up to the light. If you can see through it easily, it has a loose weave. You want to avoid that. Low price is a sure sign of low quality cotton quilt fabric. Cheaper fabric usually has lower thread count.
